i Software Group
has developed a new software product that will guide and empower
users that need access
to information on the Internet. Our product;
PREFIX
is designed to provide businesses, schools, and libraries with a
set of core technologies
that will enable access to appropriate information based on individual or group needs,
while significantly reducing the potential liability issues for these organizations.
"Adult images and
troubling ideas may be just a few clicks away. We quickly found sexually explicit
photographs, as well as material about the Klan and American Nazis"
Consumer Reports, May 1997
"We're really losing
the war on the Internet"
Kellie Foster, The Community Anti-Drug
Coalitions Of America
"We're going to see
the floodgates of pornography open on the Internet. This is not a good time
to be a
child."
Kathy Cleaver, The Family Research
Council
That workers are wasting time with electronic mail and the
Internet is undisputed but hard to quantify. One analysis of computer logs by Nielsen
Media Research Inc. in New York found that employees
at International Business Machines
Corp., Apple Computer Inc. and AT&T Corp. together visited Penthouse Magazine's World
Wide Web site 12,823 times in a single month earlier this year.
Based on an average visit
of 13 minutes, that comes to more than 347 eight-hour days.
This year, Compaq (Computer Corp.) fired 12 workers at its
Houston headquarters who had visited sexually explicit sites on the Internet. Compaq's
objection "wasn't the content," a spokeswoman says, but rather the way "the
company's resources were abused."
